About the product
The Victron galvanic isolator VDI-64A is designed to prevent electrolytic corrosion by blocking low-voltage DC currents entering a boat via the shore power earth wire. These currents can cause corrosion to underwater metals such as the hull, propeller and shaft.
Inside, two diodes are connected in anti-parallel. They allow current in both directions, but only above a threshold voltage of about 1.4 Vdc. The isolator is for 230 V AC and is installed directly behind the boat's 230 V connection. If a higher error voltage occurs in the AC circuit, the diodes allow current through and the residual-current device breaks the circuit. Part number: GDI000064000.
