The Victron Energy Galvanic Isolator VDI-16A (GDI000016000) protects your boat from electrolytic corrosion by blocking low voltage DC currents entering via the shore power earth. Internally it uses two anti-parallel diodes that conduct only above a threshold of about 1.4 Vdc, preventing unwanted currents from reaching underwater metals such as the hull, propeller, and shaft. Installed directly behind the 230V shore connection, the isolator ensures normal operation while safeguarding your vessel. If a higher error voltage appears in the AC circuit, the diodes may conduct and the residual-current device will interrupt the circuit, adding an extra layer of protection.
