The NGK MAR9A-J is a conventional nickel-alloy spark plug in the NGK Standard range, with a copper-cored centre electrode.

The copper core carries heat away from the firing tip quickly. The plug is described as running cooler under load while still burning off deposits at low speed, helping it resist overheating and fouling better than a plain nickel plug.
