Lumenition MTK003 Magnetronic Electronic Ignition Kit

The Lumenition MTK003 Magnetronic ignition is a simple, reliable upgrade designed for classic 4-cylinder vehicles fitted with Lucas 23D or 25D4 distributors. Suitable for many British classics from the 1960s to the early 1980s, it replaces traditional contact breaker points and condenser systems with modern electronic ignition for improved reliability and smoother running.

Mounted entirely within the distributor body, the MTK003 is discreet and easy to install. With just one screw to secure the module and two wires to connect to the coil, installation typically takes around 15 minutes. Engine re-timing is carried out exactly as it would be with points, by simply rotating the distributor body.

Which Coil Do I Need for My Lumenition Magnetronic Kit?

All Lumenition Magnetronic kits require a standard contact breaker coil. You have two main options:

1.) Standard 12V Coil (3 Ohm) (Recommended)

• Example: MS6 coil

• Works correctly with Magnetronic kits.

• Equivalent to our Remax ES2 and Remax ES5 coils:

  • ES5 – Same push-in fittings as the MS6

  • ES2 – Same specification but with acorn fittings

2.) Ballast Coil

• Example: MS4 coil

• Provides slightly better performance than a standard 12V coil.

• Important: The MS4 must be used with a ballast resistor.

  • Some vehicles already have a ballast resistor built into the wiring loom.

  • If not, you will need to fit one externally.

• Our MS4 coil comes supplied with a ballast resistor.
