The Hultafors ruler is a 39-inch / 1-metre measuring tool made from tempered stainless steel. It is 1000 mm long, 35 mm wide and 1.5 mm thick, with a tolerance of ±0.3 mm/m.

Graduations run in millimetres along the upper edge and half-millimetres along the lower edge. Red decimetre figures provide marked intervals, while the matt chrome-plated surface is described as reducing glare. The reverse side is blank.
